'Wish You Were Dead' hits the Theatre Severn stage!
10 May 2023

Books, five hit stage shows and a new ITV series…..

And now a brand new stage adaption of Peter James' Wish You Were Dead is playing out at Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn!

The reputation and the all-star cast made me truly excited to take a seat and watch the curtain rise on the stage play, which tells the tale of new parents DSI Roy and Cleo Grace as they take a much-needed break from work in the French countryside along with friends Kaitlynn and Jack but don’t get quite the holiday they planned…

I loved the set of the Chateau-sur-L’Eveque, even though the characters were not that keen on it themselves and described it as a potential murder mansion even before the events unfolded….and the music and lighting also set the scene for a thrilling tale.

And although the first act seemed to take a while to warm up at first, time then flew, and I was gripped as the curtain fell for the interval.

I felt there were strong performances from all of the cast, with Clive Mantle as Vicomte L’Eveque dominating the stage in the second act with, what I felt, was a great addition of comedy elements.

The performance from Rebecca McKinnis as Madame L’Eveque was a real highlight for me - again, the comedy elements really added to the experience, and I was impressed by the way the character joined everything together and helped the flow of the night.

It was a packed Theatre for opening night, and I have no doubt there will be few seats left in the house as it carries out its run here in Shrewsbury.

The all-star cast includes George Rainsford, who returns to the stage after eight years as Ethan Hardy in BBC One’s Casualty, Clive Mantle, much loved for many roles including Casualty, Game of Thrones and the iconic ‘puddle’ scene in Vicar of Dibley and award-winning actress Katie McGlynn, star of Coronation Street, Waterloo Road and Strictly Come Dancing.
