Were heading to Cumbria for a week of relaxation

As a child we headed to Devon and Cornwall and the first few years as touring caravan owners my husband and I have also travelled in the same direction.

But what we have quickly realised with two young sons who are competing in BMX racing at National level you go where the BMX racing takes you!

So in just three weeks time the boys will have raced in the Blackpool round of the British BMX Series and we’ll be looking forward to a week of relaxation just an hour on from Blackpool.

We’re booked into Holgates Caravan Park in Silverdale and if you take a look at their website https://www.holgates.co.uk/silverdale you’ll see why the decision was so easy to make.

Described as the company’s flagship park in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty surrounded by 100 acres of woodland and countryside, it seems to be the perfect destination after what we know will be a very busy weekend trackside.

For those who aren’t tourers there’s plenty of other options – tents, holiday home and camping pods hire or you can buy your own holiday home and return time and time again!

As it seems our two boys are unable to use their feet unless they have pedals underneath them, it was important for us to be able to enjoy family bike rides from the site but also have plenty of activities for the children to do on-site.

With the indoor 17m heated swimming pool, with bubble pool, turbo seat, spa pool and toddlers pool, and sauna and steam rooms, gym, bowling and pitch and putt, a games room and soft play area and two outdoor adventure playgrounds, the children may not want to leave the site anyway!

With a husband who drives a lot and works on vehicles as part of his daily work, parking up the vehicle for the week is one of the biggest attractions of any site so with Silverdale village only a short walk away and Arnside just two miles away, I may have found the perfect site to keep everyone happy! And of course each pitch is fully serviced so we don’t even have to worry who the water barrel is going to run out on first during a shower!

As we will only be an hour’s drive from the Lakes we may have to venture out in the vehicle at some point as I’m not sure my fitness levels will get us there if we went on the children’s mode of transport – a BMX!

We were looking for an independently owned, high quality site with something (but not too much!) for the children on-site and enough nearby to explore – I think I’ve found the perfect site.

I’ll report back when we return in four weeks. Happy holidays!
