The past few years have seen a rise in staycations - for obvious reasons - and we’re loving being able to explore so much of the UK!
It’s easy to forget just how much Shropshire has to offer when it’s under our noses, but there are plenty of events, excitement and secrets right on our doorstep.
Here are some of our favourite places to visit in our beautiful county…
Shropshire wonders
People come from across the country to experience Shropshire’s beauty for themselves. You can swim in the reservoir, or paddle in the streams, at Carding Mill Valley; it’s the perfect place for a warm day in the sun.
The World Heritage Site of Ironbridge is a popular place to be, with people visiting from all over the world. We particularly love a glass of wine on the gorgeous terrace of the Best Western Valley Hotel, or even an afternoon tea!
What’s on?
There’s something new happening at West Mid Showground every week! Why don’t you camp, check out the Folk Festival or take your pick by having a look at the calendar?
If you want an adrenaline-packed day, Krazy Races is the place to be! Watch charities, businesses and teams race in soapboxes at this free to attend event - the last one of this year’s Krazy Races events is in Wolverhampton on August 21st.
As proud sponsors of the events, we had a great time when we went to the Shrewsbury and Northwich Krazy Races.
If you’re looking for things to do in a certain area, date, or you just want a full calendar, local Facebook pages or groups are where to look! There are plenty of Shropshire-related community pages and groups on Facebook, like Shropshire What’s On, which share local events.
Staycay on your doorstep!
Maybe you need to get away without going too far, or perhaps you have friends or family paying you a visit? Perhaps you’ve even stumbled across this blog while planning a getaway to Shropshire?
If you like to keep your trips self-contained, take a look at Pass The Keys, which has plenty of properties across Shropshire at cheaper prices than you’ll find on Airbnb!
Prefer a hotel stay? Prince Rupert is thought to be the oldest hotel in Shrewsbury! With lots of history and plenty to do nearby, it’s also in the perfect location as it’s right in the heart of the town.
The Best Western Valley Hotel also has a number of lovely rooms available and is right on the River Severn in Ironbridge… you’re never too far from a peaceful spot!
