Surely it could not beat the previous Theatre Severn panto performances  – or could it?

Once again we got in the festive spirit by visiting Theatre Severn to watch the panto – Dick Whittington this year and with two excited boys aged four and six in tow it was sure to be a great evening.

With Brad Fitt as Dame and director and Telford boy Paul Hendy and his company Evolution behind the script once again – we knew we were in for a great show.

Dolly the Cook (Brad Fitt) had everyone laughing and at times we didn’t know what was part of the show, what was planned and what wasn’t – Brad is a natural on stage and loved by everyone.

The kitchen scene was definitely voted “the best bit” by our son’s Eddie and Archie and as Brad’s biggest fans their faces when he gave them a shout out at the end were picture perfect!

The Dick Whittington story including good against evil, the search for true love and the exciting adventures was perfect for the the audience regardless of age.

The panto at Shrewsbury marks the start of our season of festive, family fun and the boys truly loved the experience.

Dolly (Brad!) is always their favourite character but “Eric off the radio” (Eric Smith off Radio Shropshire) is certainly becoming a close favourite for Eddie and Archie.

We’ve watched Eric on stage as Alderman Fitzwarren as relaxed, confident and comfortable as the rest of the cast before seeing him presenting Carols at Southwater where he gave a shout out for the boys and then in the audience at Telford’s theatre – he really has two little fans. And apparently Eric was the “best singer” this year!

So what I’m saying is Dick Whittington at Theatre Severn is a must and I cannot understand why anyone would travel out of the county when we have such a fantastic panto and theatre right on our doorstep. Book your tickets because there’s no doubt it’ll be another record breaker. Oh and they make great Christmas presents too!

Dick Whittington runs until Sunday 10th January. Tickets are available from the Box Office at Theatre Severn (01743 281281) or online at www.theatresevern.co.uk.
