An avid lover of Theatre Severn, Kirsty visits at least once a year with her family for the Christmas panto... this year was no different! Here's what she had to say...
Doesn’t time fly when you are having fun?! Oh yes it does!
So the opening night of The Panto Adventures of Peter Pan at Theatre Severn arrived and our annual family outing took place!
For us it is the official start of the festive season when we walk through the doors of Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury. My husband, two children, my parents, sister in law and more!
There’s no denying it - we all LOVE our amazing panto dame Brad Fitt and this year was extra special as together the audience and the cast marked 10 years of Brad at Theatre Severn. Congratulations Brad and thank you for entertaining us each year.
Brad was emotional and the cast and audience were too! We are so lucky to have Brad and Paul Hendy’s Evolution production here on our doorstep each year.
The traditional shout out from Brad to Eddie and Archie happened again and now at 12 and 10 years old they wanted to die in their seats. The personal touch comes when Brad remembers he has read their names out each and every year and says “They must be 25 by now!” I have warned the boys the embarrassing shout out will continue until I am too old to attend! From newborn to now - they haven’t missed a panto!
To be honest the lump in my throat appeared at the very start - live performances are always special but after the last 20 months - to see such talent up on stage where they all belong was simply amazing. Everyone knows what a tough time the arts have gone through and they need our support more than ever.
I’m not giving anything away by revealing the panto included flying! It just wouldn’t be an Evolution show without cast members above our heads - and it is Peter Pan after all!
Each cast member was super - first class in fact but then again I wouldn’t expect anything less - from their acting, beautiful singing, comedy, choreography, stage sets and more.
I’ve seen pantomimes in many towns and cities but nothing tops the show at Theatre Severn.
And Eric! Eric Smith, former BBC Radio Shropshire presenter, must be keeping fit in his retirement as he went through a record-breaking number of outfit changes and they were brilliant and funnier than ever before. Eric - you might have retired from radio but you can never retire from panto!
So I’ve said it before and I will say it again - I think this year’s was the best yet!
If you haven’t booked your tickets yet then get them booked… the panto offers a couple of hours of feel good, light hearted, first class comedy, which we all desperately need right now.
