Bosses at Telford Tigers have thanked a town business which has been an “unsung hero” behind the scenes during the club’s resurgence.
Telford Tigers was saved from extinction by a supporters’ trust in 2008, and is now thriving under new owners, Red Hockey, with the team winning the English Premier League title last season.
One of the longest-serving supporters of the club in its recent history is The Space Place, which stores the Tigers’ ice hockey equipment at its self-storage unit in Stafford Park.
The owners of Telford Tigers said the support of businesses in the Telford community had been a vital part of its success.
Paul Baker, director of Tigers owners Red Hockey, said: “The Space Place in Telford has been a great partner of The Tigers and a real unsung hero for many years.
“They supported us when we were run by a supporters’ trust, and continued that backing when Red Hockey took over the club.
“Nothing is too much trouble for them and they are always available to help.
“The flexibility of their opening hours means we can access our stored kit very quickly, which is especially helpful during a busy ice hockey season.”
Ian Freeman, manager of The Space Place in Telford, said the firm was more than happy to help local businesses whenever possible.
“We have looked after the Telford Tigers’ gear for as long as I can remember,” he said.
“We try to be as flexible as we can because it’s obviously very important for them to be able to access their equipment as and when they need it.
“We were over the moon when the team won the title last season and it would be fantastic for the town if they can continue their success.
“We are just delighted to be a small part of the behind-the-scenes team to help them thrive – long may it continue.”
