What's happening?

techtimeout tuesday

It’s that time again… Black Friday is over, Cyber Monday has been and gone, and it’s now techtimeout tuesday!

What does that mean?

techtimeout tuesday began in 2020 as “the antidote to Black Friday and Cyber Monday”. Many of us will have spent endless hours scrolling online to bag a bargain and this initiative allows us to put those devices down and enjoy a techtimeout.

A techtimeout is just that: time away from your technology to enjoy everything else around you.

We’ve taken part in the annual event every year since it started and it’s now an occasion the team looks forward to. It’s a chance for us to chat without our computers or phones trying to divide our attention.

But why?

techtimeout aims to educate people about using tech for good and spread awareness of healthy relationships with their devices.

Working in PR and social media we heavily rely on tech. We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without it!

We can’t ignore the downsides, though. According to Data Reportal the average internet user spends almost seven hours online each day. That is a lot of time to be looking at a screen rather than the world around you.

There are physical effects of our enormous tech usage, such as headaches, sore eyes and bad posture, and there are the mental effects of being chronically online. techtimeout tuesday is a chance to reflect on your own tech usage and have a well-deserved screen break.

What we’re doing this year…

We love a simple and classic techtimeout at J&PR so we’re playing board games in our training room. You can’t go wrong with that, can you? Well, unless Monopoly is involved…

In previous years we’ve gone out for a team lunch or simply enjoyed a walk around the churchyard by our office. It doesn’t have to be a grand techtimeout, just something that makes you stop and think about your technology usage.
