Shropshire hotel hosts wedding with a difference

It was a case of double, double vision for the guests at a county wedding this month.

It’s not at all unusual for a twin to get married of course, but it is a little rarer for a twin to marry another twin, with the bride’s sister acting as bridesmaid and the groom’s brother the best man.

Add to that the groom’s mother, who is a triplet, and all three of them were also at the wedding, leaving guests a little confused!

Weddings at the Valley Hotel in Ironbridge are a regular sight but they have never staged anything quite like this as Roy Slimm married partner Rebecca Lye on May 13.

Roy, and his twin brother Lee, both grew up in the Telford area and work at the Valley Hotel. Having made their mark on the hotel and in the hearts of their guests, it is no surprise that the bride and groom chose the hotel as their number one location for their wedding celebrations.

Roy is a full-time receptionist and part-time breakfast chef at the hotel and his brother Lee also works there as a bar and restaurant supervisor.

Over the past decade, the identical twins have been known simply as LeeRoy, regularly entertaining – and confusing – the guests and staff.

Lee said: “The whole twins thing is something we don’t think too much about any more, for us it’s normality and we are just the best of friends.”

Rebecca and her identical twin sister Rachel both work within the finance sector in Birmingham. Rebecca jokes sometimes that on photographs even she struggles to tell everyone apart.

All four of them met at the Sutherland School in Trench 15 years ago, and have all worked together at the Valley Hotel.

Rebecca said: “I couldn’t have pictured getting married anywhere else. We have spent a great deal of time making memories in this hotel over the past ten years, and the food and service can’t be faulted – the team have successfully created a warm and welcoming family environment.”

Roy said: “Having the wedding at the Valley was always what we wanted to do.

“I have worked there for nearly 12 years. It is a great venue for weddings, and we knew we were in safe hands and knowing the team made it even more special for us.

“The day itself was brilliant and was the perfect setting for celebrating with all our family and friends.”

Rebecca said: “We can’t thank Lisa and her team at the Valley enough, they made our day so special, and the Valley family really did do us proud.”

Following the wedding, Roy and Rebecca jetted off to Cuba for their honeymoon.
