The owners of a historic Shropshire hotel have invested hundreds of pounds in upgrading four of its bedrooms and now schools have been invited to have a go at naming them.
The Best Western Valley Hotel is located in the heart of the Ironbridge World Heritage Site.
The property itself is steeped in history having once been the family home of famous Jackfield tile manufacturer Arthur Maw and genius Victorian inventor Thomas Parker.
Now owned by Philip and Lesley Casson, the hotel still displays examples of Arthur Maw’s highly acclaimed decorative tiles throughout the reception area.
The main staircase features a plaque in memory of Parker, whose inventions included electric street lighting and the first electric tram.
Over recent months the Georgian-listed hotel has undergone a number of improvements including a complete refurbishment of its multi-award winning Chez Maw restaurant.
Now four of the hotel’s bedrooms have been upgraded to luxury premium rooms. Each one is uniquely decorated and has a fantastic view of the park and gardens
Sally Pridding, acting general manager for the hotel, said: “We are extremely pleased with the newly revamped rooms.
“They offer guests a real touch of luxury especially if they have something special to celebrate such as a birthday or anniversary.
“Various aspects of the hotel are named after someone or something – the Chez Maw restaurant after Arthur Maw, the Severn Suite after the River Severn, Dixon Way after the builders who built it and so on.
“It’s become somewhat a bit of a tradition to name bits of the hotel so we thought it would be a nice idea to invite local schools to name our newly rated premier rooms.
“Those people who come up with the best names will be invited to erect a plaque on the door and enjoy a children’s afternoon tea as a special treat.
“It’s just a bit of fun really but we are very excited to see what interesting names people come up with.”
One of the rooms has already been named so schools are being asked to submit name ideas for the remaining three.
