Record demand at a Shropshire-based taxi firm is leading bosses to make a fresh call for more drivers.
Managers at Go Carz say the firm is now completing about 33,000 journeys a week in Telford, which is the highest number they have ever done, and demand is so great that they could do even more.
Cindy Wilday, marketing director at Go Carz, which is the largest private hire firm in the Midlands, said they had never been so busy.
“Demand has been steadily increasing over the past few years but it has risen sharply in recent months,” she said.
“We are carrying out record numbers of about 33,000 journeys every week in Telford at the moment but there is so much demand we could be doing more than 50,000.
“Our drivers are fantastic but there is only so much they can do so we are calling for more people to join us.
“We are getting thousands of phone calls and bookings through our app every day and while we try to make sure everyone is able to get a taxi, the reality is that we need more drivers to make sure people don’t have to wait too long until a car is available.”
Cindy said taxi driving was a good career option with flexible hours and a cutting-edge back office system ensuring that bookings are quickly despatched to drivers.
“Taxi driving is a fantastic job for lots of people from all sorts of backgrounds because it is so flexible,” she said.
“It really is what you make of it – if you are willing to work hard you can earn seriously good money.
“The most important thing is that the customer demand is there – we are getting so many enquiries that the jobs are just waiting for drivers to take them up.
“We offer all drivers the opportunity to complete an NVQ qualification in Road Passenger Vehicle Driving, and we give support and advice about the licensing application process too.
