Pupils at a Shrewsbury prep school have raised more than £1,000 for charity by completing a 5k run – complete with mud slide.

Prestfelde School, in London Road, held the Race For Life event to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, and staff said it was an outstanding success.

Tina Owen, head of girls’ games at Prestfelde and organiser of the event on Saturday May 14, said £1,300 had already been raised, with donations still coming in.

She said: “It was lovely to see so many people at the school for the Race For Life, and we were lucky to have such a pleasant sunny day too.

“All of the pupils who entered the race – which comprised of four loops of the school grounds – did really well, and particularly seemed to enjoy the mud slide, which was a new addition this year.

“Parents also took part in the run and some even took the opportunity to try out the mud slide too, which was great fun.”
