What's happening?

Proud to be a family of entrepreneurs

Two years ago my mum was asked what her children did as careers and she was able to say all three ran their own companies.

“I’m proud,” she once said to me, “You are all…….” “Entrepreneurs” I interjected….but she was actually going to say “so driven”.

I was first to launch my own business with the unveiling of JandPR in 2009 when I had just turned 29, closely followed by Benn, who at the age of 25 launched his own English Academy in Spain ‘Big Benn and Little Maite’ and then Michael joined the club with his own web design business ‘Schnipz Web Design’ – he was just 22.

I don’t know what led all three of us to follow this route but I know it was tough and at times the possibility of failure was definitely an option.

But at the time we were doing it there was no support network that we knew of, nobody that would have the time to talk us through some of the problems that arise and nobody to champion our efforts.

But times have changed and right under my nose new businesses launched by young people with huge talent and fantastic ideas are to be showcased at an event in Telford this Saturday (July 20th).

Young British talent will be on show at the UK’s first ever PopUp Market
and Music Concert being staged at Telford Enterprise Hub.

The young entrepreneurs’ festival and showcase – Enterprise Rocks! – will take place at the Enterprise Hub in Hadley Park from 10am to 5pm and is the keynote annual event in the Young Britain campaign to help the under-30s start their own businesses. Entrance to the business festival on the is free but entry is strictly by ticket only at http://enterpriserocks.eventbrite.co.uk

Organisers will be welcoming hundreds of local visitors to see how young people have created profitable businesses in just six months since the Young Britain programme started.

And I will be among them. I cannot wait to see the ideas and businesses created by the local young people, and those across the West Midlands and I think a day to showcase their talents is fantastic.

I know a number of local businesses who will be going along to source suppliers and take a step in supporting the businesses of the future and I do not plan to miss out.

And I also want to congratulate the organisers and Young Britain – many people of my age had great ideas and never had the support to put them into action, the youngsters of today are very lucky…….now I do sound old!!!

PS…To see some of Michael’s amazing work just look around – he designed our website. To see Benn’s amazing work you would have to fly to a town near Valencia in Spain but trust me, he is a very successful entrepreneur along with his partner Maite. #veryproudbigsister
