Today is the day…and there’s certainly a big buzz around town.
Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn celebrates its opening of the magical Arabian tale of Aladdin.
The pantomime will run until Sunday, January 12 and tickets are selling very quickly, with 39,000 snapped up already.
Beki Poole, marketing officer, said the theatre is on track for another record sell out year.
She said: “We won’t officially know until the pantomime comes to an end in January, but with the rate tickets are selling we are very much on track for another record breaking panto season.
“Tickets are still available but they are selling very quickly so it’s advisable to book early to avoid missing out.”
Beki said the theatre is buzzing with excitement.
“Panto season is undoubtedly our busiest time of the year but with that comes a lot of excitement amongst the staff,” she said.
“It’s always great to have the panto cast back for Christmas, our regulars Brad Fitt and Eric Smith and all the new faces we get to meet.
“Every year we welcome thousands of excited children and families through the doors all looking forward to seeing the show.
“There is a real buzz in the air as people are getting excited for Christmas, which is very infectious.
“The pantomime brings a lot of joy to many people and whether you’re working Front of House or backstage, it’s very rewarding knowing you’re contributing to that experience.”
Although the pantomime opens today, the official panto opening night will take place on Friday.
“Opening night is always a special evening as we invite all of the local press, sponsors and invited guests including family and friends of the staff and cast,” said Beki.
“The show is followed by a reception of canapes and bubbly with speeches by the producers and venue manager. It’s a great way to kick-start the festive season.”
