A leading Shropshire hotel will be offering a new place to work, host meetings and network for the Telford business community from next month.
The Best Western Valley Hotel in Ironbridge will be holding a special event to officially launch its £10,000 new internet system at Telford Business Club on July 12.
Bosses at the hotel will then offer an area of the hotel as a business hub every day from 9am to 5pm for businesses to use the internet for free, to hold meetings or work
in a different venue and to enjoy informal networking. Each member working in the business hub will receive one hot drink free of charge the first time they visit.
The successful completion of the £10,000 upgrade of the hotel internet system has been welcomed by staff. They now hope the business community, including many who may suffer from rural internet problems or work from home as a sole trader, will use the free wi-fi at the business hub.
Lisa Snape, sales and marketing manager for the hotel, said: “This is an exciting time for the hotel. The internet upgrade could not have gone better and is a much-improved service for our customers.
“We now have the opportunity to offer the hotel to the business community in an area where so many suffer from rural internet problems. We couldn’t think of a better time to officially launch the wi-fi than at Telford Business Club next month which has been a great supporter of The Valley as a venue for the business community.
“The hub will mean we can offer an area of the hotel every day for people to work – depending on other events being hosted here it may be in the room off the bar, in the Severn Suite or in the seated area in the reception.
“We would ask if people needed an area for several people at one time to contact us ahead of the meeting but instead we will welcome all members of the business community on a drop-in basis.”
The installation of the new internet system comes almost a year ahead of the planned rollout of superfast fibre broadband in the Ironbridge area.
Parts of Shropshire, including Ironbridge, have particular poor broadband speeds. The new wireless internet system will also provide much faster internet speeds for hotel guests.
Mrs Snape added: “Many of our guests are visiting for corporate events and need to work in their rooms at night, whilst families who visit the Ironbridge area who often want the wi-fi for their children’s ipads and other devices.
“With so many tourism apps and other on-line information it really is a must for us as a leading hotel in the World Heritage site.”
Next month’s Telford Business Club meeting, arrival 5.30pm for a 6pm start, will also see the club “go green” when Jo and Paul Frith of Credibly Green will be guest speakers. The company, based in Bridgnorth, aims to boost businesses green credentials and improve their environmental performance.
The member guest speaker will be Neil Phillips of Phillips Chartered Accountants. Visitors can attend at a cost of £15 per meeting. All places have to be booked in advance due to catering. To book for the meeting or for more information e-mail email@example.com or visit ww.telfordbusinessclub.com.
