If you went to Llandudno on a cold, winter Friday night in the hope of winning an award then where else would you stay than an award winning hotel where the ceremony was being held.
The best way to reduce the risk of ruining my hair do or overworking the heels walking from one venue to another was to book a premier room at the Visit Wales Gold Award winning St Georges Hotel.
The prominent seafront hotel holds fond memories for me as our annual family visits to Llandudno started when we stayed at St Georges Hotel for my grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary several years ago.
On arrival at 5pm on a Friday night armed with a tuxedo and my dress and everything else a girl needs to take for just one night away, we were greeted by the friendly reception staff and the festive music and the light adorned bar area and coffee lounge certainly put my husband and I in the celebratory mood.
The bedroom was everything you’d expect but after unloading our clothes the table for two overlooking the seafront was calling us – coffee to start followed by a warm up wine!
The Free 2 Network award ceremony was a little more than we expected after our Shropshire-based PR company J&PR Ltd scooped the Start Up Business of the Year 2013 award judged by former Dragon’s Den judge Rachel Elnaugh.
My husband and I were determined to wake up with a clear head in order to make the most of our child free weekend so we enjoyed the additional few hours of sleep we had got compared to if we had been at home with a two year old and a four year old and then set off for a walk around Llandudno.
We needed to walk off the four year meal we had enjoyed at the awards ceremony the night before and the full Welsh breakfast we couldn’t resist that morning.
The pier is a must any time of year and although the Great Orme is usually a favourite we didn’t venture on this occasion as the child-free shopping opportunity was too rare to miss!
However whether you are holidaying in Llandudno with children, as a couple or as a family group (as we have have done with up to 30 family members including four generations in the past) there is something for everyone – coastal walks, open top bus ride, cable car rides, tobogganing, an abundance of venues for drinking and eating and so much more.
And what’s more Llandudno is open or year around – believe it or not! So the beach isn’t just for the summer months but put on your layers and enjoy the autumn and winter too. In fact as we enjoyed the relaxation of St Georges Hotel we said it would make a perfect family break around the festive/new year season – to wake up to be waited on by the superb staff on Christmas Day would be great.
With or without the children or the rest of the extended family we will certainly be back.
