A Shropshire-based electrical company is celebrating 40 years working with businesses and customers across the county.
Gra-Bern Electrical Contractors Ltd, based in Madeley, Telford, was set up in 1976 and one of its founding partners Bernard Bowen only recently retired in 2010.
Director Graham Brown and his co-director wife Hilary now run the company with their team including technical manager Mick Goodwin and contracts manager Mike McGowan, along with Mr Brown’s mother Joyce who is still working part-time in the office after joining the company in 1977. The company boasts a team of 12 highly-trained employees.
Mr Brown, director, said he was very proud to be providing electrical services on a regular basis to clients he first started working with 40 years ago.
He said: “Shropshire is a fantastic place to do business and we are very proud to be celebrating our 40th anniversary.
“It gives me great pleasure that we have such prominent and established Shropshire businesses as our clients, many of which have been with us for many, many years – all 40 years in some cases,” Mr Brown said.
“Our business has organically expanded with the introduction of services such as LED lighting which has become especially important in commercial premises and schools.
“Safety is paramount for clients and all members of the workforce and we are Chas (Contractors Health and Safety) accredited with competent health and safety advice provided by Wenlock Health and Safety Ltd – another fantastic local company.”
Gra-Bern Ltd is also very proud of its long-standing reputation for providing training for its workforce.
Mr Brown said: “To protect our hard earned reputation, we have regularly recruited local school leavers as electrical contracting apprentices, through national training provider JTL (Joint Training Ltd).
“Successful apprentices are then registered with the Joint Industry Board (JIB).
“We enjoy training our own electricians as it creates a family-type atmosphere within the company as our fully-trained employees are keen to help out the new apprentices.
“We also aim to develop the professional expertise of our fully-qualified employees and encourage them to take courses and broaden their skills throughout their time with the company.
“The training is a core part of our skills and workforce development and over the time we have had many award winning apprentices and hope to have many more in the future.”
Mr Brown said the company is looking forward to celebrating its 40th anniversary this year with its clients.
He said: “We wish to thank all of our clients who have worked with us over the past 40 years. It has been a pleasure and we hope that Gra-Bern Electrical will continue to work with all our wonderful customers for many years to come.”
