An international best-seller and one of the country’s top television actresses will unite on stage next year to give Shrewsbury audiences a real treat.
Samantha Womack, best known as Ronnie Mitchell from BBC One’s Eastenders, will star in an eagerly awaited production of Girl On The Train. Here at J&PR we can’t wait to get our hands on tickets which are on sale now.
The play – one of the highlights of next year’s summer season at Theatre Severn – is based on the gripping thriller written by Paula Hawkins. It has already been turned into a major blockbuster film by Dreamworks and tells the story of Rachel Watson, played by Samantha, who longs for a different life.
Her only escape is the perfect couple she watches through the train window every day, happy and in love. Or so it appears. When Rachel learns that the woman she’s been secretly watching has suddenly disappeared, she finds herself as a witness and even a suspect in a thrilling mystery in which she will face bigger revelations than she could ever have anticipated.
Samantha’s impressive CV includes extensive television, film and theatre credits. As well as starring in Eastenders, Samantha has leading roles in Mount Pleasant and the hugely popular Game On. Recent films include Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Kingsman: The Secret Service alongside Colin Firth. Samantha recently played Morticia in a tour of The Addams Family
Samantha is looking forward to taking on the role which begins a major tour of the UK and Ireland in January.
“Having been thoroughly captivated by the novel, the opportunity to take on a role like this is incredibly exciting. I’ve been fascinated by thrillers for a long time and this kind of storytelling, like Hitchcock’s ‘Rear Window’, offers us a voyeur’s journey into a world which is dangerous and full of suspense,” she said.
The Girl on the Train will be at Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn from Monday 27th May to Saturday 1st June 2019. Tickets are available through the booking office online at www.theatresevern.co.uk, or by telephone 01743 281281 and from the venue Box Office.
