The last time I went into the former Swan Inn in Frankwell I was armed with a pool cue and ready to make my mark on the Sunday league. Admittedly that was quite a while ago and I spent much of my visit concentrating on the pool table but I was still completely  unprepared for what awaited me at the now restaurant The Olive Tree.
I paid a visit on a Friday night along with two friends – a long overdue girlie night out which we were very much looking forward to. And thanks to the lovely staff and great food and drink at The Olive Tree we were not disappointed.
The atmosphere is wonderful and the setting a far cry from the traditional pub layout of the Swan.
We ordered a drink at the bar and were taken to our table in the restaurant. Dim lighting, candles and white surroundings all set a very Mediterranean feel – and the large glasses of wine topped off our holiday-style evening.
We decided to order tapas and selected three dishes each with a range of food including Patatas Bravas, a Halloumi tower and meatballs.
The tapas arrived with a bowl of bread and we couldn’t fault any of the dishes, they were a good size, the meats were tender and all of the dishes full of flavour.
The staff were very attentive but not over the top and met our every need – even ordering the taxi and letting us know when it had arrived.
In my time as a journalist I did a number of reviews after dining at wonderful Shropshire eateries and after discovering The Olive Tree I felt eager to tell our blog readers about it.
I often used to end my reviews by saying I couldn’t wait to go back but I cannot say that this time as I have already been back for my husband’s birthday treat – when we had a second lovely experience.
A welcome addition to the wonderful eateries we have in Shrewsbury.
