There will be something new for mums of very young ones at this year’s Staffordshire County Show. Read about the new facilities here.

The annual Staffordshire County Show is stepping up it’s provision for families this year, with new facilities to cater for small babies.

A new breastfeeding and nappy changing base will be featured at this year’s half term show, offering new mums some privacy and respite from the buzz of the excitement around the showground.

Richard Williams, Chief Executive of the Staffordshire and Birmingham Agricultural Society, said: “We realise that with 65,000 people attending the show there is not often an opportunity to have somewhere quiet to breastfeed a small baby.

“We are a family event and being in half term means parents often come with children of all ages.

“We realised we could do more to cater for the very small children who come so we hope the new breastfeeding and nappy changing area will be well received.”

The dedicated services for babies will be based in the Lost Children Marquee at the showground in Weston Road during this year’s show on May 30 and 31.

It will be manned by volunteers from Mumbles Day Nursery, based in Sandon, and will offer chairs for breastfeeding mothers to use and changing stations to comfortably change a nappy.

Charlotte Norman, from the nursery, said: “Children can get very excited at a large county show like this as there is so much to see and do.

“But all parents know how quickly they can also run off in the excitement so we want to continue to ensure everyone has plenty of fun and stays safe.

“Our marquee doesn’t have to just be a place for people to bring lost children though, we wanted to offer something else.

“We love the company of babies and enjoy looking after them day in day out in our job, so we want to help parents out a little more.

“Hopefully the nappy change and breastfeeding area will be helpful to.”

This year’s event promises to be another great day out for the family with local produce, crafts, activities, displays and performances.

The JCB Dancing Diggers will perform in the main ring twice each day.

More details about exhibitors and entertainers featured at this year’s show and details of how to buy tickets will be revealed in the coming months.

Tickets will be available to buy direct from the showground website www.staffscountyshowground.co.uk from April 1 2018.
