Say “the circus” and people think of children but in fact I would estimate 50 per cent of the audience at The Place in Oakengates, Telford were there without the younger generation on Saturday night to watch the UK tour of The Moscow State Circus.
We risked the evening performance with a four year old and a two year old (who had both refused to have a sleep in the afternoon to ensure they would last the performance!) resulting in thoughts that we had paid for two tickets for two children to sleep in the chairs. How wrong could I be.
Four year old Eddie sat speechless through the whole performance – in awe of the gymnastic performances. Whilst the two year old battled through his tiredness to clap throughout. The parents and grandparents managed to stay awake too!
The fantastic performances from the talented cast included flying, back flips, juggling, roller-skating, ladder balancing, vertical pole jugglers, head balancing and aerial sails and were certainly performances like we’d never seen before. And I am sure any other woman in the audience would agree we could have watched the first gymnast all night!
The Park Gorkogo show attracted a strong audience with very few seats spare and I am sure yesterday’s matinee performance was packed full of excited children.
In my husband’s words as we told friends what a great evening we’d had “it’s the best way to see the circus” – no battling through mud and wrapping them up in layers to sit in the big top (although I know others may argue that is the ONLY way to see the circus!)
The Place have and continue attract top name performers to keep your eye on that programme and never be worried about the children being too young to sit in a theatre. Our two become star struck every time and we struggled to get a word out of them.
The Place programme www.theplacetelford.com includes Britain’s Got Talent finalist Steve Hewlett and his zany talking puppets on Saturday night including the Simon Cowell which he impressed the judges with in his audition; X-Factor’s Joe McElderry; 2009 X-Factor winner Matt Cardle; Roy Chubby Brown; All Star American Wrestling and a performance by award winning comedian Omid Djalili following a sell-out season at the Edinburgh Festival.
