Work experience season is well and truly here! Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Year 10 student Cameron to spend the week with us. Here's how it went for him...
As Monday morning arrived, I felt a whirlwind of emotions: excitement, nervousness, curiosity, and shock. I couldn’t believe that I was about to begin my work experience. This was my first time in the professional world, and I was eager to see what lay ahead.
A warm welcome
When I first arrived at J&PR, I was greeted by Simon, who made me feel so welcome. Soon after, I met Kirsty, who was incredibly kind and enthusiastic, and Rhea, who was so nice and welcoming. Their warm reception made me feel like I was part of the team from the get-go.
Diving into the work
Over the week, I engaged in various tasks that broadened my skills and understanding of the PR industry. One of my primary tasks was working on social media graphics using Canva. This digital platform was a fantastic tool that taught me many skills I can take into my Design and Technology GCSE. It was exciting to see my creativity come to life through the graphics I created.
In addition to working on graphics, I delved into past blogs and press releases. This task allowed me to see the type of content J&PR produces and understand the different writing styles and strategies used in the industry. It was great to read through these materials and get a sense of the company's voice and messaging.
One of the highlights of my week was sitting in on a course lesson led by Kirsty. This session was incredibly informative and helped me understand what PR is truly about and the various activities that J&PR undertakes. It provided me with a deeper insight into the industry and the role that public relations plays in shaping a company's image and communication strategy.
Reflecting on my experience
Overall, I have really enjoyed my time at J&PR. It has been interesting to learn about the different aspects of PR and the various tasks involved in the profession. This experience has opened up another potential career path for me in the future. It has also made me realise that working with new people can be very fun and is actually quite rewarding. This positive experience has inspired me to seek out more work experience opportunities to explore different fields and discover what I truly enjoy.
A thank you
As I wrap up my week at J&PR, I want to extend a thank you to the entire team for providing me with this opportunity. Your warm welcome and the valuable experiences you’ve given me have made my first work experience truly memorable. I am grateful for the chance to learn from such a supportive and talented group of professionals.
Thank you so much, J&PR, for making my first work experience so enjoyable and informative. I look forward to applying what I’ve learned here in my future and continuing to explore the exciting world of PR.
