J&PR August Highlights
03 Sep 2024

How is it already September! The month of August has seen many a trip and holiday for the team as well as some great client work in the summer months!

Take a read of what we have been up to over the last four weeks…

Friends, family and holidays

Rhea took a weekend trip to Ibiza with seven other ‘footie mums’ and it was wonderful! Swapping pitch side for the seaside brought some much-needed relaxation time - as well as some great food and drink and lots of dancing. A week later she headed to Tenerife with the family so there was lots of sun and swimming in August!

Her professional highlight was writing a marketing campaign for client EPX Technical Services - Windows 10 is coming to its end of life in 2025, so Rhea has a year to feed the message out to EPX clients and potential clients to ensure they contact their IT support to upgrade - and she loves creating a campaign!

Dani is being cheeky and going with ‘the summer holidays’ as her personal highlight for August - which for Dani happens to incorporate a trip to the Titanic exhibition in Birmingham, seeing Bruce Springsteen (for the 11th time!) at Wembley, a trip to watch Gladiators being filmed in Sheffield, a trip to see friends and family in London, enjoying the free fun at Bowring Park in Wellington, a somewhat wet holiday in Cornwall and moving house!

She’s still had time to work, though. Her professional highlight was getting The Friends of Telford Town Park on the front page of the Shropshire Star to promote a kids' quiz around the stunning Chelsea and Maxell Gardens in the park.

Kirsty’s holiday, which you heard about in last month’s blog continued with collecting the children from their school trip in Spain. Then, the Smallman family continued on to Portugal to see their friends who emigrated two years ago. It was a very special time for all!

After two nights in their own beds, the Smallmans were back in their motorhome and enjoyed their first weekend festival at Camp Bestival Shropshire - they loved it!

Ploughing through the emails and getting back into the swing of work was not a highlight for Kirsty, but she has enjoyed onboarding two new clients this month - you’ll no doubt hear more about those two new exciting clients and how we are supporting them very soon.

Football fever is back

Si had to manage a few weeks without football so was relieved to see the Premier League kick off again during August. Combining the best of all worlds, he managed to convince Rhea that watching the first game of the season in a sports bar in Tenerife was a great idea, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing his beloved Nottingham Forest claim their first point of the season in the sunshine.

Meanwhile, back at work Si has enjoyed a very varied August, which has involved everything from designing annual reports, assisting at a video shoot and creating social media content for a new client supplying logs.

Here we go again

Still on a footballing theme, Tony and eldest granddaughter Mia are back on the rocky road of following Shrewsbury Town’s fortunes this season - but it hasn’t started well! Tony was a regular at the old Gay Meadow but interest lapsed for a number of years before Mia reignited his interest last season and they are both hooked now - along with Tony’s son Martin and grandson Jasper.

Tony’s work highlight was an interview with Shropshire Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Jacqueline Porteous who appeared on the TV show back in 2011. She has built up two very successful businesses, one now run by her daughter. Looking for a new challenge, Jacqueline passed her Category D coach driving test with Dulson Training two years ago at the age of 62! Since then she has driven for three local coach companies . . . oh, yes, and she is also in the process of writing a book!

Anniversaries - both personal and professional

Sophie visited client Southwater Vets earlier this month and had a great meeting with their Practice Manager, Rachel. They talked about how much the practice has grown recently - welcoming new patients and new staff members - and discussed potential plans for their first birthday in October!

Celebrating another trip around the sun with partner Aid was Sophie’s personal highlight! Their fourth anniversary was in August, and the pair spent it at Trentham Gardens, one of their favourite places. There was also a Makers' Market (Sophie’s dream!). They then had their traditional anniversary dinner at Umai - their favourite local restaurant.

Finally - some magical healing

Taffy headed over to her family in Weston-super-Mare, which is not only known for its magnificent Grand Pier, but some people believe that the fresh sea air and salt water provide medicinal purposes. This dates back as far as the Victorian era where people came in their hundreds for a bit of seawater magic. The jury is still out, according to Taffy. However, she had a fantastic time with her boys by the beach every day.

Her work highlight was finding out that the new mezzanine floor is complete at her client’s showhome! The Firecraft Centre is based in Admaston, and Martin and his team have been working very hard to spruce things up, and finally, the end is near. We hear an invitation may be on its way for the official opening!
