A work experience student, Anja, joined us for a week in July. Here at J&PR we introduced her to the work that happens behind our doors and the skills she will need in the future.
We talked to Anja about her week at J&PR…
I’ve really enjoyed the first couple of days so far. This has consisted of editing on Canva, reading through some blogs and meeting new people.
Tell us a bit about you!
I've recently turned 15, which is crazy to think.
I live in Oswestry with my parents and my brother, which is also where I go to school at the Marches. I'm finishing Year 10 in a couple of weeks and starting to feel some nerves for my final year in school but I’m looking forward to what the future holds!
What made you want to do work experience at J&PR?
I’ve been thinking of some places to work that would be reflective of my hopes for the future.
At J&PR, there is a perfect combination of skills and experiences I feel would help shape some future plans. These could be marketing, designing or journalism.
Do you think being a student of the pandemic has impacted your work experience and student life?
I think the pandemic affected my social life and the communication that came with it. It’s definitely impacted me within school as well as work experience as I’m not the best at meeting new people.
J&PR has some really nice people who have made me feel very welcome and those nerves I’d developed, quickly vanished.
I’m hoping to finish my work experience with an improved set of communication skills.
What have you most enjoyed about your work experience so far?
Everything!
Within the past few days, I’ve been able to design some things on Canva and understand what certain customers do.
If I had to choose, I would probably say I've enjoyed designing on Canva the most. I think creating things with a range of text and designs can be very fun for your creativity.
What’s next for you?
Next year is my GCSE year where I will be taking my exams for all of my subjects.
Currently I’m planning my media coursework which entitles me to design a film poster and the front and back cover of a DVD. Apart from that, all my GCSES will be happening next year.
After my A Levels, I want to go to university to study a journalism or fashion course.
What career path are you hoping to go down and why?
I’m hoping to do something like journalism as I enjoy travelling and writing up my experiences; I would really like to design things like magazines and newspapers.
I’m also quite passionate about fashion and recently, I’ve discovered fashion journalism courses are available at certain universities.
I think it would be amazing!
