Travel vaccinations now available at Shropshire pharmacy group

A group of pharmacies in Shropshire has launched a new service to allow people heading off on holiday to get their vaccinations in store.

Lunts Pharmacies, in Roushill and Hereford Road, Shrewsbury, will now be a one stop for all travel health needs, including vaccinations.

People can get vaccinations for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Cholera, MMR, Yellow Fever and Malarone tablets for malaria prevention, as well as many more at the pharmacy instead of having to go to their doctor.

In comes after two of the company’s pharmacists have achieved qualifications to administer vaccinations.

Patients just need to make an appointment at their chosen pharmacy – which can also be done on a Saturday, unlike doctors surgeries.

Lunt Pharmacies owner Martin Lunt, who also has pharmacies in Craven Arms and Pontesbury, said being able to offer vaccinations in the Shrewsbury stores makes it easier for people to get appointments rather than using their GP.

He said: “Vaccinations are the best way to protect yourself from disease and to help prevent the spread of illness to those around you. We know finding time to see your GP can sometimes be difficult, so that is why we are offering a range of vaccinations in-store.

“It’s just another way people can make sure they are getting the correct vaccinations before they travel – and it also eases pressure on GP surgeries.

“We also provide all sorts of products you may require for your holiday like sun cream, after sun, insect repellant and insect bite relief. We are always glad to give advice about how to avoid sunburn, tummy upsets, malaria and other holiday risks and to supply suitable remedies and precautions.”

Mr Lunt said he was thrilled that two pharmacists, Ian Swindell and Helen Grass, have now qualified to give vaccinations. They went to training sessions and also completed online training too.

“They have worked hard to achieve this and we are pleased to be able to offer yet another service to our customers. With people starting to think about going on holiday for the summer, it’s really important not to forget to check which vaccinations you might need to travel to your destination,” he said.

Lunts Pharmacies are open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday in Roushill and until 6pm at Hereford Road. Both are open on Saturdays from 9am.
