How do we support the charity sector?
Almost 200,000 charities are registered in the UK, helping those in need. We share our offices with many fantastic charities under the umbrella of Telford & Wrekin CVS (Council for Voluntary Service) at The Glebe in Wellington. We’ve learned a lot since J&PR began about the sector, as we’ve supported a range of charities and not-for-profit organisations to enhance their communications and raise their profiles, in turn, helping to bring in donations, sponsorship and volunteers.
At a time of uncertainty for the country, the challenges charities face include income generation, with increasing demand for their services, and ensuring their value is always understood by the public. But there are many reasons to be optimistic - as there are increasing ways for charities to highlight their work, to get people on board and grow.
We work for charities in a number of ways - we have covered maternity leave for Midlands Air Ambulance and covered a period when a role was vacant as the Severn Hospice recruited.
We assist with specific campaigns in the run up to an event or activity, such as the Telford Tree of Light or the Macmillan Coracle Race.
And there are charities we work with throughout the year, supporting them with all activity and both in-house and external communications. This is how we work with the West Midlands Agricultural Society.
A step further...
Beyond such ways we place charities centre stage, we often go a step further and practice what we preach by fully getting involved in fundraising activities - walks up Snowdon, 50-mile charity cycle rides, volunteering in an orphan house in Malawi – we’ve done them all.
As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility we also support a number of organisations including Wrekin Riders BMX Club, Bayston Hill Beaver Scout Group and Telford Tree of Light. We won the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce award for our community engagement work in 2017, before scooping the Chamber’s Business and School Engagement (1-5 employees) award in 2019 for our work with local schools.
We truly believe that charity begins at home. For two years running we've hit the aisles with a Christmas Supermarket Sweep, rather than send our clients Christmas gifts and corporate cards. We filled the trolley with food, toys and books before handing them over to a range of charities. Members of our team also sit on school governing boards and volunteer in their spare time - all putting us in a great position to give charities the best support possible.
J&PR's account managers work with our in-house marketing team to ensure the relationship works effectively.
Since the first lockdown in March 2020 the digital presence and reputation of a global brand like Jesmonite has never been so important; J&PR ensured our digital offering and communication changed according to the fast-changing situation.
The work of J&PR resulted in an increase of more than 6,000 unique monthly visitors to our website; this increase was achieved through organic activity with no use of advertising.
This is testimony to J&PR knowing their client and its target audience and working with the in-house team.
J&PR allocate their dedicated account managers according to their areas of specialism within the industry and this is evident in the results they achieve.

For me this week I decided to invest in some more social media training. Sure I knew the basics but there were definitely some areas that I felt like "what? Eh?" and could really brush up on my understanding.
