The Friends of Telford Town Park
PR to Raise Awareness for Local Charity Work
Service: PR for business
Sector: Charity
The brief
J&PR approached The Friends of Telford Town Park offering to do some PR for the voluntary group as part of our corporate social responsibility. The group wanted to increase awareness about the fact they exist and the work they do. Their target was people living in and around Telford, who may want to join them, as well as getting J&PR to help with contributions to a regular newsletter for public circulation.
They felt a lot of people did not know they worked on the park and helped contribute to its upkeep so local print and online publications were a focus, as well as radio.
The solution
We assigned an account manager to the group as we would do with any contracted client and began to hold meetings to understand more about the group, what they do and the messages they wanted to get across. We focussed on the people in the group and the exceptional difference it makes to the individuals involved, as well as the green areas of the park. We also got the group involved in coverage of wider issues such as mobility and mental health - and the benefits this kind of group offers. We looked at events they held and significant changes to the park that visitors would know about and recognise, but not necessarily know The Friends of Telford Town Park were behind it.
We also ensured their voice was present for important stories surrounding big issues at the park - such as a royal visit or a planning dispute.
All copy produced by J&PR may also feature in the Friends’ newsletter.
The impact
The Friends of Telford Town Park have regularly been in the print press and also featured online - including some BBC Radio interviews too. Their success stories have been shared and we have even assisted them with increasing their reach on social media and organising a petition too - additional benefit we can provide as part of the corporate social responsibility. As well as listening to their needs and helping whenever possible, J&PR continue to spot news stories within the organisation and shout about the great people they have involved.
