Congratulations to Lawley Primary School!

We did it, we did it, we did it!

Christmas has come early for children at Lawley Primary School after they became winners of a £10,000 Dulux Smarter Spaces make-over competition.

Thanks to all of the parents and people across the Shropshire community who voted for the school, the children will return after the festive holidays to a bright, colourful school.

They were shortlisted along with five other primary schools across the UK but there could only be one winner!

Lawley Primary School became one of the shortlisted schools after impressing the judges with their 300 word entry as to why they wanted to win.

The competition win means they will now enjoy £10,000 worth of colour and design services to makeover its main corridor and entrance hall.

And to help break the winning news to the staff and pupils, the internationally famous Dulux Dog and Matthew Burton, star of TV’s Educating Yorkshire and ambassador for the campaign visited the children.

During his visit, Matthew spoke to the head teacher and pupils about the initiative, which promotes the concept of ‘learner-led design’ and the effective use of colour in schools and encourages pupils to be actively involved in the decoration planning process.

Here at J&PR we are extremely proud to have helped the school win this competition by promoting the competition through a regional press campaign and an on-line campaign to make sure people kept voting and shared the competition to friends and family.

As a proud parent governor at Lawley Primary School I am so pleased they have won and thankful to everyone who voted.

Carol Mcguiggin, headteacher at Lawley Primary School, said: “Transforming the main entrance area and corridors with colour and inspiring images will mirror the ethos of the school, its staff and most importantly the children.

“The year 5 children offered many incredible and thought-provoking ideas for the design concept, it will be fantastic for them to see their ideas materialise in front of their eyes. We are all very excited.”

Watch this space – we will share photos of the transformed areas in the new year.

Well done to everyone at Lawley Primary School.
