Charities

J&PR aims to raise the profile of businesses across Shropshire but also supports nominated charitable organisations.

Rhea Alton is a volunteer and provides PR support for the North Shrewsbury Friendly Neighbours and Kirsty Smallman is a volunteer and provides PR support for Medic Malawi.

The North Shrewsbury Friendly Neighbours support older and vulnerable people living in Castlefields, Ditherington, Heath Farm, Mount Pleasant, Sundorne, Harlescott, Monkmoor and Greenfields. Volunteers provide support such as dog walking, assistance with shopping, taking people to doctors and hospital appointments and just being there for a friendly chat and a cup of tea.

Medic Malawi began in December 1997 as a means of raising small sums of money to supplement health care in the Mtunthama region of Malawi. Before long it became apparent that a much more radical approach was needed, and the decision was made to build and run a hospital, now known as St. Andrew’s Hospital. The local community was fully involved in the labour and in fund-raising for the project. The charity has recently been taken over by Stephen Drew, the former principal of Wrekin College in Wellington.

Shropshire County Show

Shropshire has long been renowned for the standard of its livestock, which has seen some of the finest animals to be found here and abroad.

The Shropshire County Agricultural Show is the showcase and testing ground for stock breeders as one of the first major agricultural shows to be held in the year in the UK.

The event, which has been running for more than 120 years, is now much more than just an agricultural show and caters for a wider audience than ever before. It has become an event for everyone where town meets country for a day of education, entertainment and enjoyment.
